4. How Do I Reassemble Binaries?Large downloaded binaries will arrive as multi-part RAR files. RARs were mentioned earlier as a type of compressed file that can be divided into chunks and recombined. Once you download binaries in the RAR format, you will need to decompress and recombine the archive with software. If you don't already have a RAR program installed, click here. (NewsLeecher© has built-in tools for RAR and other functions, but we are using independent tools because they will work with any newsreader should you uninstall NewsLeecher later.)
For those who are RAReady, let's assume the files are now sitting on your computer's hard drive. You can navigate to the files without leaving NewsLeecher newsreader by clicking the "Explorer" tab...

See the highlighted section of the file above? This indicates the chunk's number within the archive. RAR software, depending on the version, will archive chunks in one of two formats:
Like this..............CentOS-5.2-i386-bin-DVD.part01.rar
or like this ..........CentOS-5.2-i386-bin-DVD.r01
In either case, double-click the first chunk in the set to recombine the archive. In our example it would be part01, but sometimes an archive begins with part00 or r00. Double-clicking on this file will trigger open the RAR software (screenshot below).

Click the Extract To icon and you'll be given an opportunity to chose where you want the file extracted to, or you can accept the default path. Make a mental note of it. Click OK and the extraction process begins (see below).

This process can take a few minutes depending on the size of the file and the speed of your computer. When done, navigate to the extracted file(s) by using your favorite file manager, or by clicking the Explorer tab inside NewsLeecher (below).

In our case we have a DVD ISO image, and hash files to verify it. VOILA! We're done!
That's Great But What If Something Goes Wrong?
When you download binaries it can happen that one or more parts are damaged or incomplete and instead of a reassembled archive, you'll get an error message. Luckily, we have a solution! Remember those 12 paused files in the queue that didn't download and are still sitting in NewsLeecher? Those miraculous little files are called PAR (.par) files, and you can use them to repair the archive. See how easy it is in Step 5.
